A bit of a surprise was in store for the team when, after just a few days of the season had been underway, the team leader, van Kamp, suffered a horrific crash in one of the early season races. A bit worrying for the team after their prolific rise from Division 6 over the past season, as points need to be continually scored to maintain their high Division 4 status.
Regardless of any mental damage from the crash, van Kamp trained well over the 10 days he was out of racing and came back stronger, and fitter, especially on flat ground. More importantly, Englishman Jeffrey Ree had also been training hard over the off-season, gaining important skills and abilities in leading out our main sprinter.
Whilst Ree is touted as a future favourite for the team captain job in technical sprints, for the time being he is suited, down to the ground, as a perfect lead out man, all the while gaining experience on the job.
So, when Louis-Philippe van Kamp took to the start line in Al Qasim Race is was with an undeniable sense of satisfaction that VC Montpellier claimed their first victory of the Season 13, and that it was still in Division 4.
Surely, with this sort of strength, Division 3 awaits?
